Classic Boat Magazine January 2010

Classic Boat magazine (UK) announced in their January issue their short list for the Restoration of the Year award. Included in their top 12 is the International Six Metre Totem, US 51. She was shown in a feature I wrote for the December issue of CB on the class’ recent World Championship, last September in Newport, RI. I am also the North American correspondent for the magazine.

Classic Boat editor Dan Houston will announce the restoration award winner during the London International Boat Show that is going on now through January 17th.

I used to own this 1930 Bill Luders design and she was fully restored by Jesse Smith of Providence, RI. Jesse documented his preparations for the championship (called the World Cup) in a beautiful blog. He is preparing the boat for a season of camp cruising and further race testing leading up to the next World Cup in 2011 Helsinki, the European Championships the following year then the 2013 World Cup in Flensberg, Germany.

Totem, US 51, genoa lead.
